WASHINGTON: US Department of State Spokesperson Matthew Miller on Tuesday said that any country doing business with Iran risks facing US sanctions, ARY News reported.
“We always advise everyone that doing business with Iran runs the risk of touching upon and coming in contact with our sanctions and would advise everyone to consider that very carefully,” he said while responding to a question regarding the Iran-Pakistan Gas Pipeline Project.
“As the assistant secretary made clear last week we do not support this pipeline going forward,” Matthew Miller added.
The statement comes a day after Minister for Petroleum Musadik Malik said that Pakistan would seek a US waiver of the sanctions over the Iran-Pakistan Gas Pipeline project.

Speaking to media representatives, the petroleum minister said that Pakistan cannot afford the project to be halted, adding that the United States government would be asked to waive off the sanctions from the project.
“We have prepared an exemption petition draft against the US sanctions,” Musadik Malik added. He said that Pakistan will fully present its case on the matter.
Earlier, Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to the pipeline project as Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch called it the sovereign decision of the government to continue the project.
During the weekly news briefing on March 21, Baloch reiterated that there was no room for any discussion or waiver from any third party for the construction of the pipeline.
She went on to add that Pakistan has conveyed to the US authorities the importance of the project for its energy security.
